desert 2023/2024

With these collages I've returned to Desert, a series inspired by a trip through the desert from Las Vegas to Palm Springs. The loud Vegas Strip rising up from that harsh and beautiful landscape was surreal, as were the cool mid-century bungalows with their primly kept lawns in Palm Springs. 

Though the subject matter and technique are the same, these new works are different from the older ones. I've let more colour in, and I've played up the layering,  adding to the sense of depth. My collages have always felt like objects to me. Looking to emphasize that 3D quality in these new works, Ive made them smaller and covered them in epoxy instead of framing them.

The new work is on display and for sale at De Wilde Weg in Amsterdam.
